Omaha Poker – an overview
Omaha Poker is the perfect game for players who struggle to sell opponents their bluff when playing cards at online casino.
Unlike Texas Hold’em, where bluffs are more of a risk due to players having just seven active cards to play with, Omaha Poker gives you nine cards to dice with in order to turn those early bluffs into genuine strong hands.
The basics of Omaha mean everyone has a chance of winning regardless of your initial hand. As an overview, players receive four cards in the hole that no others can see and bet in accordance with Texas Hold’em rules as five community cards are laid out on table.
The aim is to make the strongest hand from two of your four cards and three from the table’s five – and this is where confidence in the bluff comes into play.
Unlike Texas Hold’em, where a poor hand usually leads to a weak bluff or immediate fold, in Omaha you can risk the bluff knowing you have six different combinations in your own hand to match with the table.
You’ll probably have at least two cards numerically close to each other or two of the same suit, so you’ve an early chance of a flush or straight. It’s certainly worth staying in the game to see the flop (first three community cards) and match up accordingly.
If you still don’t posses a strong hand then this is where the bluff kicks in. Two more cards and three rounds of betting are still to come and if you’re usually a conservative player you should bluff big – for you have the insurance of a probable good hand later in the game.
Of course it’s a risk but it’s one worth taking if you knock out half your opponents and with two community cards still to turn over you could potentially win a big pot from an initial bare hand.
