Even the best of players will experience a loss or many.  The game of poker is both based on luck and skill, and you will have both ups, and downs in your play.  Poker champions will always have slumps that they will experience.  These doubts can be very critical to a player’s ability.  If you have the good sense to learn from your mistakes that you have made during this down time, then you will be a much more grounded and successful player, in the long run.

Avoid alcohol

A lot of the times on television, they will find a way to down play the fact that the players at the poker table are drinking themselves under it.  You will not hear them mention that the players are getting drunk, but you can see the affect that it has on their ability to play if you are paying close attention to it.   This is a big no winner if you are wanting to play in a professional setting.  If you are drinking then you will make bad choices that can cause you to lose hands, and possibly get kicked out of the tournament all together.  If you are new to the poker tournaments that are a critical mistake that you never want to make.

If you are one of the chosen few that are lucky enough to make it to the final table in the tournament, then you might get a case of the jitters.  Do not let your nerves control you at this stage of the game.  Stay focused and keeps your emotions in check.  If you tend to get cocky when you are winning, then you are much more likely to make a mistake.
